This work is simply one of the greatest treasures of our civilisation. It is an opera which can speak to a child with its charming story and characters and also reveal great truths of the human condition to adults. Its seeming simplicity masks a profound wisdom and its music is so naturally perfect that it appears to have been composed in heaven. This classic production by the great Göran Järvelfelt is true to the original spirit of the work, telling the story with elegance and delightful fantasy and, at the same time, with the reverence and sense of wonder that this opera inspires.

This is a perfect "first time opera" for the whole family - and indeed, for any company, it is a family piece - a work to which so many of our wonderful West Australian singers can bring their special gifts. Aldo Di Toro makes a welcome return as Tamino - a role which will suit him completely. Elisa Wilson brings her great style as splendid singer and actress to the role of Pamina. Jud Arthur and Andrew Collis return to the company for the roles of Sarastro and The Speaker - and our fi ne team of ensemble members, chorus and young artists complete a beautifully balanced cast. We promise an evening of enchantment and delight, with the special joy that this great masterpiece always creates for an audience.

The Opera Australia production of The Magic Flute is presented by arrangement with that company.

Sung in German with English dialogue and English surtitles
