Simon Phillips’ much-loved production comes to Western Australia for the first time. Its Australian outback setting is perfect for this ‘absolute corker’ of a story. The charm of The Elixir of Love (L’ elisir d’amore) is a deeper story about money, romance and true love. The dreamer is the boy, Nemorino (literally “little nobody”), who finds the courage to declare his love for Adina. He discovers that he is loved in return, not for his money or status, but for his sweet nature. Adina finds that love can win over pride.

Nemorino yearns for the love of Adina, a wealthy tenant farmer.
The sergeant, Belcore, tries to capture Adina’s heart. Nemorino asks the travelling doctor, Dulcamara, for his famous love elixir. Dulcamara gives him a worthless substitute. Nemorino takes the elixir and his confidence grows so much that when Adina appears Nemorino feigns disinterest. She is astonished by his change in behaviour and accepts Belcore’s proposal of marriage.
Nemorino is desperate for the elixir to take effect. Dulcamara assures him that a second dose will speed things up but Nemorino has no money left to buy more. Belcore tricks him into signing up for the army in return for cash so that Nemorino can afford to buy his elixir. Belcore is delighted to have tricked his rival to enlist in the army. Meanwhile, Nemorino’s uncle dies, leaving him a fortune. The village girls hear the news and flock around Nemorino – who thinks the elixir is working.
