Harriet O’Shannessy

Born in Chertsey, UK and raised in Perth, WA, Harriet completed a Bachelor of Laws and worked as a criminal lawyer before commencing training as an opera singer.

Harriet is a former West Australian Opera Young Artist (2011-2012) and recipient of the Bendat Scholarship (2011). She is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Masters of Music (Performance)).

In 2008 Harriet was awarded the Barbara MacLeod scholarship for the most outstanding female classical music student at WAAPA. She has been a finalist in the MTO German-Australian Opera Grant and the Puccini Foundation Award.
Harriet has been a regular performer with the West Australian Opera chorus since 2010 and her first appearance with the company was in 2003. Harriet appeared as Ida in Die Fledermaus (Opera in the Park, 2011), Cousin in Madama Butterfly (2012 & 2015) and the Fourth Maid in Elektra (2012).

Harriet toured with Oz Opera performing Gretel in Hansel and Gretel. She has also performed with the Opera Australia chorus. Her roles include Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, Nerina in La Fedelta Premiata (Sydney Conservatorium of Music), and Abigail in The Crucible (WAAPA)
