Celebrate the power of the human voice in a special gala concert marking 50 years of opera in Western Australia.

A thrilling program of highlights from the operatic treasury is presented by Australian artists, with the West Australian Opera Chorus and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brad Cohen.

You are invited to dress up to celebrate this milestone. You are encouraged to wear evening dress, black tie, a costume or your favourite outfit.

Since 2010 West Australian Opera has broadcast City of Perth’s Opera in the Park from Perth to regional venues throughout the state. Thanks to Lotterywest, Healthway through the Alcohol.Think Again message, the Department of Regional Development, the Community Resource Network and Westlink, regional audiences are able to watch free live opera on-screen in their community. Anyone with access to Westlink Regional Satellite TV Channel 602 is able to tune into the simulcast to watch Opera in the Park live from Perth.

The regional simulcast enables die-hard opera fans, or first-timers just being introduced to the artform, to experience the beauty of live world-class opera.

THE CONCERT
Is there a program available?
Yes, programs will be available, free of charge in Supreme Court Gardens and in regional centres.
Volunteers from our charity partner Telethon will be in Supreme Court Gardens handing out programs and you are welcome to donate a gold coin when you see them.

What time does the performance start?
The performance starts at 8pm
Please arrive early to secure your spot.

What time does the performance finish?
The performance finishes by about 10.15pm

Will there be an interval?
Yes, one 20minute interval at approximately 9.10pm

What happens if it rains or is windy?
If it rains we may need to stop the performance for a while (or cancel)
If it’s windy we will try our best to persevere, although the quality of the sound may be affected. If wind conditions become severe and cause the event to become unsafe for our singers and orchestra, we may need to stop the performance.

Where is Northbridge Piazza?
The Piazza is on the corner of James and Lake Streets in Northbridge. The performance will be simulcast from Supreme Court Gardens to the outdoor LED screen and an illuminated 8 metre high feature ‘Green Wall’. Entry is free.

How do I get to Supreme Court Gardens?
Supreme Court Gardens is located along Riverside Drive, Perth.
For public transport please call the Transperth Info Line on 13 62 13 or visit Transperth to plan your journey.
A drop-off zone and ACROD parking is located on Riverside Drive and a taxi rank situated at the Barrack Street Jetty.
Visit Show Me Perth to view a map and vehicle access to plan your journey.

We encourage you to bring a picnic
Bring a blanket to sit on
Low chairs are welcome
Bring a jacket in case the weather is cool
Open flames or candles are not permitted

Note: there are no ATM facilities onsite.
No BYO alcohol.

What is the dress code?
We encourage you to dress up in evening wear, black tie or your favourite costume

Where can I sit?
There are allocated areas for low chairs and higher backed chairs (back of park)
Towards the front of the park, near the stage, is the picnic rug and low deck chair seating area.
At the rear of the park is a high deck chair seating area. In all other areas picnic rugs and low deck chairs are welcome.

Are there safety restrictions?
Please keep aisles clear for safety and access reasons.
Security staff will patrol the areas.
First Aid is available.
Front of House ushers can assist with queries.

Can I buy food?
Yes, there will be coffee, ice-cream and food vans available at Supreme Court Gardens

Will there be onsite first aid at Supreme Court Gardens?
Yes, there will be St John’s Ambulance first aid points on either side of the park.

WHAT IS A SIMULCAST
The term ‘simulcast’ stands for ‘simultaneous broadcast’, meaning the broadcast to the regional screens is at the same time as the live event at Supreme Court Gardens.

WHERE ARE THE REGIONAL VENUES?
Screens will be set up in theatres and auditoriums in Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Carnarvon, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Margaret River and Merredin.  Your local Community Resource Centre may also be holding an event, contact them here. Anyone with access to Westlink Regional Satellite TV Channel 602 can also watch the simulcast from their own home.

DO I NEED A TICKET?
The simulcasts are free of charge; however you do need to secure a ticket to reserve your seat.
Some Community Resource Centres (CRC) may charge a small catering fee, please contact your local CRC for event details.

FAQs ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Will there be a program available?
Yes, programs will be distributed at each venue. The venue may ask for a gold coin donation which is collected by a local not-for-profit group or charity.

There will be speeches on-screen from 8:00pm, with the performance starting at approximately 8:15pm.  The opera will finish at approximately 10.30pm.

The Albany Entertainment Centre is located at 2 Toll Place, off Princess Royal Drive, Albany. Parking for 135 vehicles is available in the Centre’s car park on Toll Place. Additional parking is available in the City CBD north of the railway line where people may utilise the footbridge to access the Centre. How do I get to the Broome venue?
Sun Pictures is located on Carnarvon St, Broome. Parking is available within walking distance.  For parking locations call the Shire of Broome on (08) 9191 3456.

How do I get to the Bunbury venue?
The New Lyric Theatre is located at 8 Bourke St, Bunbury.  Parking is available in Bourke St. For other parking locations call 9792 7000 or visit the City of Bunbury website.
