WEST AUSTRALIAN OPERA 2024 ANNUAL REPORT

West Australian Opera’s 2024 Annual Report is now available here.

Significant achievements including:

  • WUNDIG WER WILURA, a new Wesfarmers Arts Commission from Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, premiered at Perth Festival and sung in Noongar.
  • In-concert world premiere of EUCALYPTUS, a new opera from acclaimed Australian composer Jonathan Mills.
  • Purcell’s DIDO AND AENEAS set around an exclusive long-table dinner at Government House Ballroom.
  • An award-winning creative team brought RUSALKA, a new grand-scale Opera Conference production, to the stage.
  • Thrilling acrobatics and striking video design combined in Circa’s award-winning production of Gluck’s ORPHEUS & EURYDICE.
  • Audiences spent an evening under the stars listening to much-loved opera and musical theatre favourites at our Gala Concert OPERA IN THE QUARRY.
  • AUSTRALIAN BAROQUE took audiences on an exquisite musical journey, celebrating the grandeur of the Baroque era with four beautiful concerts.
  • Presented in association with West Australian Symphony Orchestra MAHLER 8 was an astonishing sonic spectacle.
  • West Australian Opera and York Festival presented WUNDIG WER WILURA IN CONCERT to 362 attendees at the opening of The York Festival 2024.
  • KOOLBARDI WER WARDONG IN CONCERT saw this Wesfarmers Arts Commission performed to 200 audience members in Karratha.
  • ENCHANTED ENCOUNTERS featured a variety of supernatural-themed pieces, addressing elements of the secondary school curriculum.
  • WESFARMERS ARTS SINGING CLASS participants performed at SONGS IN THE QUARRY, allowing them to showcase their learnings.
  • ACT BELONG COMMIT COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM delivered over 80 workshops to young people in the City of Cockburn, City of Gosnells and the North Midlands involving over 3,500 participants
    and spectators.
  • There were opportunities for all to enjoy and access opera through our AUDIO DESCRIPTION & TACTILE TOURS.
  • 2024 saw the introduction of OPERA 101, a series of lectures with Artistic Director Chris van Tuinen at the University of Western Australia.
