About the show
A gripping telling of Shakespeare’s classic boasts one of Verdi’s most renowned scores. Experience Macbeth as you’ve never seen it before.
Lord Macbeth was a loyal General who had sworn allegiance to the King of Scotland but when a group of witches reveal a prophecy that he will one day be King, he and Lady Macbeth become consumed by greed. They plot the King’s untimely demise. Years pass and the guilt of their callous actions begins to devour them. The King and Queen find themselves entangled in a never-ending cycle of lies, murder and betrayal that ultimately cost them more than their reign.
This is a brand new co-production from West Australian Opera and State Opera of South Australia.
“Macbeth is a great tragic opera; where the greatest, the most heroic, the highest falls due to one tragic flaw, in this case his ambition for power.”
