West Australian Opera was established in 1967 and has been Western Australia’s only full-time, professional opera company for over 50 years.
We want to present opera that moves you, enchants you and makes you think about the magic of being alive in the world today.
West Australian Opera seeks to speak to the heart through the human voice. We want to share the joy of music through opera and the powerful stories opera tells. It is magic. It is beautiful. It touches souls and minds and we have a dream for its future.
We want to be part of your journey by being with you throughout your life in schools, communities, regions and the theatre.
We present operas drawn from the mainstream operatic repertoire and are involved in the commissioning and developing of new work. We offer an annual subscription season of main stage productions as well as operatic events in metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
We are an incorporated association with a board of eight directors, chaired by Andrew Pascoe. The Executive Director is Carolyn Chard AM and the Music Director is Chris van Tuinen.
West Australian Opera acknowledges the Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia as the traditional custodians of this land, and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
