WUNDIG WER WILURA IN CONCERT coming to Albany and Bunbury this November
After mesmerising audiences and critics in the Perth Festival in 2024, West Australian Opera’s Wesfarmers Arts commission, WUNDIG WER WILURA is heading to Albany and Bunbury this November in a concert adaptation, WUNDIG WER WILURA IN CONCERT.
Written by award-winning composers, Gina Williams AM and Guy Ghouse, WUNDIG WER WILURA (Wundig and Wilura) is an ancient Noongar story of star-crossed lovers, who break the bounds of lore and custom, and have their souls forever banished to Mount Brown (Wongborel) and Mount Bakewell (Walwalling) in York, Western Australia.
West Australian Opera will present two concert performances at Albany Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, 5 November and two concert performances at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Friday, 7 November.
Jarred Wall and Jess Hitchcock return as the titular characters and are joined onstage by David Leha, Tyrone Brownley, Charley Caruso, Jarred Inman, Bella McGill, Teresa Moore, Benjamin Gath and Gina Williams.
WUNDIG WER WILURA IN CONCERT, will be helmed by Albany’s Matt Reuben James Ward, who directed the production when presented for the 2024 Perth Festival. Matt Reuben James Ward says, “It’s an honour to support the telling of this West Australian story with new audiences in the south-west and in particular in my hometown of Albany.”
West Australian Opera’s Executive Director, Carolyn Chard AM said; “We are deeply passionate about the powerful stories opera tells, and when WUNDIG WER WILURA played in last year’s Perth Festival, we saw how strongly it resonated with audiences and knew we had to share this beautiful story with wider audiences. We are grateful to our funders and partners who enable us to tour. Wundig wer Wilura is a Wesfarmers Arts Commission and this presentation is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development through Playing WA and MM Electrical Merchandising.”
WUNDIG WER WILURA is performed in Noongar with English surtitles and is suitable for ages 8+.
