THE SONG CATCHERS
THE SONG CATCHERS
New Commission for Albany 2026
West Australian Opera and Breaksea are proud to present The Song Catchers, a new work created with the Albany community, that will form a cornerstone of Albany 2026.
Join Tipu, a curious fox, and Marri, an intriguing echidna as they journey though a world where songs have been silenced. Through tangled truths and tested friendships, their adventure explores what it means to find your voice and hope for a better shared future together.
This heartfelt tale has been inspired by conversations and workshops with Menang Noongar Elders - Aunty Eliza Woods, Aunty Glenda Williams and Uncle Larry Blight - alongside Breaksea Youth Writers' Group and the Artistic Development Panel.
The Song Catchers examines identity, belonging, and the healing power of music, promising to resonate with audiences of all ages.
Supported by the City of Albany, Lotterywest, WA Government, Creative Australia and Wesfarmers Arts.
This work will be presented in October as part of Albany 2026.
