AUDITIONS
West Australian Opera is seeking classically or music theatre trained singers of Asian heritage to join us for Our Little Inventor.
This is a new musical work, composed by Emma Jayakumar and co-written by Emma Jayakumar and Sher Rill Ng. It is to be performed at His Majesty’s Theatre in October this year and will be sung in English.
WAO will be auditioning for the following principal roles:
1. Nell |
A Chinese Malaysian teenage girl and gifted scientist, she is strong willed and has, at times, a fraught relationship with her mother. Soprano voice type. |
2. Mama / Aunty |
A dual role. Mama is Nell's maternal grandmother who lives with Nell's family and has been instrumental in raising Nell and her younger brother. Aunty is a street vendor who looks out for the wellbeing of the children in the city. Mezzo Soprano voice type. |
Date and Venue
Auditions will be held at West Australian Opera, Level 3, His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday 27 April from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.
Please prepare two songs for your audition
1. Song of your choice
2. One of your songs must be sung in English
Please provide a brief CV with photograph.
Additional Information:
- Must be 18+ to audition
- 4x performances to take place on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October
- You must be available during the days plus some evenings for rehearsal and staging weeks (12 September - 30 September)
- In addition to the principal cast this opera will also feature a youth chorus of up to 40 young people
